Plumbing Emergency Help Emergency Boiler Repair

Tips on dealing with plumbing emergencies.

My Water Heater is Leaking

Turn off the gas or electricity:

Gas:
Twist the dial on the top of the gas valve, which is located toward the bottom of the water heater, from the “On” to the “Off” position. This will turn the gas off at the water heater.
Electric:
Find your breaker box and flip the breaker to the off position for your water heater.
Gas or Electric Heaters to Turn off the Water Supply:
Find the cold side water pipe coming into the top of your water heater and follow the water pipe back to the source or the wall – you should see a water shut off dial or lever to turn to the off position.

My Hose Spigot is Leaking

Follow the water line back to the source or the wall. You should see a shut off lever or dial. Turn to the off position. If there is no shut off on the water line, you can place a hose with a spray head to the hose outdoors (if your spigot is leaking on the outside). This should hold back the leak until a service call can be scheduled. If the leak is on the inside and there is no shut off on the water line, you may have to turn off the main water shut off valve for your house off. This will turn off the water to your entire home.

How do I know if I have forced hot air?
You typically would have ducts in your home that lead to vents in the wall, ceiling or on the floor that your heat and/or central air flow out of.

(Kevin Scott Plumbing does work on the forced hot water, boiler, baseboard heat systems)

You Smell Gas

Call the gas company; select the “Gas Smell Emergency” prompt on their menu.

You Have A Leak That Cannot Be Shut Off Or Contained

You can shut off your main home water valve at the water meter. There should be a shut off after the water meter, if not then there should be one before the water meter.
